Work brought me to this gorgeous space at The British Association (Singapore), and from the very first moment, I knew it would be something special.

The atmosphere was serene and tranquil — the kind of space that invites you to pause, breathe, and be fully present. As the ladies arrived, each carrying her own story, laughter and warmth filled the room.

It was the very first time each of them tried brush pen calligraphy — and watching their curiosity unfold into calm, focused joy was such a gift. One participant shared,

“It’s my first time truly slowing down, and I love it!”
Another said,
“This is more therapeutic than I thought.”

That’s the beauty of calligraphy — it’s not just about writing beautifully. It’s about slowing down, listening inwardly, and allowing art to reconnect you with yourself.

Throughout the session, we learned the foundations of brush pen calligraphy, practiced mindful writing, and shared stories and reflections over good coffee and conversation. Between laughter and quiet moments, I saw connection taking root — not just between pen and paper, but between hearts.

The ladies wrote words that reflected their season — Peace, Joy, Creation, Harmony. And truly, each one embodied her chosen word in the most beautiful way.

At the end, we held up our final pieces — each one different, each one sincere. It reminded me once again that what makes calligraphy meaningful isn’t perfection, but presence.

To the lovely ladies of The British Association — thank you for your openness, for embracing the practice with enthusiasm, and for reminding me that every workshop is really a gathering of stories waiting to be written.

If you’d like to bring a similar creative, reflective brush pen calligraphy experience to your organization, ministry, or community, I’d love to connect. You can drop me a note at hello@sundaysdawn.com — I’d be honored to craft a meaningful session for your team.

With love and gratitude,
Serene
