Why Project #SundaysDawnForCebu

At Sundays Dawn, calligraphy has always been about more than ink and paper.
It’s about presence, meaning, and connection — the way words, written with intention, can bring light into dark places.

When tragedy struck our neighboring island, we felt compelled to act — to let our art become an instrument of compassion.

💛 Project #SundaysDawnForCebu was born from that conviction:
that creativity can serve, beauty can heal, and words can carry hope where it’s needed most.

Our goal is simple:

👉 To raise raise awareness and funds S$1,500 for the Singapore Red Cross, amplifying their relief efforts for survivors in Cebu.

The Red Cross is already on the ground — providing emergency medical care, clean water, sanitation, psychosocial support, and safe shelter for displaced families. Partnering with them ensures every dollar given is responsibly stewarded and reaches those who need it most.

How You Can Be Part of Project #SDforCebu

This is where our community — our hands, words, and art — come together.

1️⃣ Donate

https://www.giving.sg/donate/campaign/src-philippinesdisaster

No gift is too small. Whether it’s S$10, S$50, or S$100, your contribution directly supports the Singapore Red Cross’ ongoing relief work.

Your giving will provide:

  • Emergency food and clean water
  • Temporary shelters for displaced families
  • Medical and psychosocial care
  • Hygiene kits and sanitation supplies

Every cent becomes a thread of hope woven into someone’s recovery story.

2️⃣ Write Blessing Cards & Calligraphy Pieces

Let’s turn our words into vessels of comfort.

  • Community Gallery: Share your “Hope for Cebu” calligraphy and we’ll feature it online, showing survivors and people who are helping out there, that they’re not alone.

Art doesn’t rebuild walls, but it rebuilds courage.

3️⃣ Sell for Relief

If you create calligraphy prints or art pieces, consider pledging 100% of the proceeds from one design to Project #SDforCebu.

We’ll feature your work through Sundays Dawn so that:

  • Every piece sold becomes a story of shared hope.
  • Every purchase becomes both a gift of art and a gift of help.

From Lea’s Desk

"When I first saw the photos from Bogo and Daanbantayan — homes reduced to rubble, families gathered under open skies — I felt that familiar ache in my chest. But alongside the heartbreak was something else: hope."
"Hope in the faces of volunteers carrying food packs. Hope in the quiet hands rebuilding. Hope in knowing that even from afar, we could still stand with them."

"As Serene’s VA, I’ve seen how Sundays Dawn has always been about slowing down, reflecting deeply, and creating with heart. And now, through Project #SDforCebu, I see that same heart expanding beyond words — turning art into action, and community into compassion."

Why It Matters

The Rappler reports tell of thousands still waiting for help.
Families are rebuilding from the ground up — one wall, one prayer, one day at a time.

And while none of us can fix everything, together, we can do something.

When we pick up our pens as a community, we declare that art can heal, words can rebuild, and compassion can cross oceans.

How to Start Today

💛 Go to https://redcross.sg/donate-philippinesdisaster and make your contribution — even S$10 feeds a family for a day.
💛 Share your calligraphy with the tag #SDforCebu — let our gallery of hope grow.
💛 Pledge your art profits — let your work bless twice over.

Together, let’s reach S$1,500 for Cebu.
Together, let’s remind them that Singapore cares.
That Sundays Dawn cares.
That you care.

When the ground shook, hearts stood strong.

On the night of September 30, 2025, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Cebu in the Philippines — shaking the region awake with fear and devastation.

Homes crumbled, schools collapsed, and countless lives were changed in a single night.

Towns like Bogo, Medellin, San Remigio, and Daanbantayan were among the hardest hit. Thousands of families were displaced, many still without power or safe shelter.

LOOK: GROUND ZERO Here are some photos from various parts of Bogo City that sustained damage after the 6.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Northern Cebu on September 30, with Bogo as the epicenter. Dr. Winchelle Ian Sevilla of PHIVOLCS-DOST stated that the earthquake originated from an offshore fault near the epicenter that had been dormant for 400 years, during a press conference held in Quezon City on October 1.

Even as the earth trembled, something beautiful stirred: people began to rise.

Neighbors checked on one another, volunteers braved debris to search for survivors, and communities mobilized to deliver food, medicine, and hope.

From Singapore and beyond, compassion began to cross borders — a quiet reminder that empathy knows no distance.

The Reality on the Ground

According to CNA and The Straits Times:

  • 72 lives have been lost.

  • 294 people are injured, many seriously.

  • Hospitals are overwhelmed — doctors and nurses treating patients outdoors under makeshift tents.

  • Homes, roads, churches, and power lines lie in ruins.

  • The historic Daanbantayan Church, a beloved community landmark, lost 70–80% of its structure.

As reported by Rappler, aftershocks continued to rattle northern Cebu in the days that followed. Families slept in open fields, too afraid to return indoors. Power remained out for days across Bogo and nearby towns.

And yet, amidst all the uncertainty, stories of courage continued to surface — proof that the Filipino spirit remains unshakable.
